GO UP, UP UP, the view is a little nicer…
How was everyone’s Memorial Day Weekend? Did we find a little time to give a little respect to our vets? Hope so. My Dad is a vet, and NOW, finally, is getting some gracious handshakes, and some “thank you’s” for doing what he, and so many others did. B-B-Q’s, sure, why not; it’s a day off work, but the priorities should be the thanks to an enormous group of people who dedicated their lives, for our lives. I thanked a lot of people; it was also a very relaxing few days for me, too. Saturday, took my dog running, or should I say he took ME running! Trying to pace…

VOLUNTEER YOUR PATIENT(s)…
Today was a great day for me; I should rephrase that, because everyday really is a great day, and why wouldn’t they be? We only have a small number of them; make em’ great! Today, though, was my first BIG day at UCLA. Volunteer, yes, but it really was a great day. I started visiting rooms, “shadowing”, as it is called, with another gal, showing me the ropes of what is expected of us. Lot of paper work, actually, from visiting patients, their condition, and how they feel about the services provided for them. I have to really use my perception of them, and realize, “do I stay, or should…

MAKE THIS DAY, “YOUR ” DAY…
Ok, now let’s go on with the positives in our lives. Last blog was in the aftermath in Boston, as it should have been. It was a disaster; I just wish the reporters should only report the facts, not “and we heard”. Enough of that, and we move on. I won’t go on with what “should have been”. Let’s talk about what makes sense to you today; (fitness, perhaps?). I’m not talking about tomorrow, and I don’t have enough energy to talk about yesterday, I want to know about NOW. Do you like biking, or running, or weight resistance, or dancing, or yoga, or martial arts, or…or…or…the lists goes on,…

GO BOSTON…good thoughts for you
Boston: Bostonian; Boston baked beans; Boston brown bread; Boston terrier; Boston cream pie; Boston fern; Boston ivy; Boston lettuce; Boston Massacre; Boston rocker, Boston Tea party; there’s a lot to Boston; but more importantly = HEART!!! A lot of it! I’m very sad for the family, and friends, of all involved in the senseless, brainless, idiotic act on Sunday. What is supposed to be a very celebratory event, turns into chaos. Why? We don’t know, but we all know this won’t end, until all events are found. I know a lot of friends from Boston; a lot of good people. Some with a little attitude, but they still have heart. Who…

DO YOU BELIEVE…
Do you believe? Big question, lots of answers. I guess this can apply to various items in everyone’s life. It has in mine. I went over 30 years without going to church, for many reasons, too. Now, there hasn’t been a week, ( of going to church) that I’ve missed in 5 years, ( well, almost 5 years, April 29th will be my 5th anniversary since my first surgery!). I am so, so grateful for what the Lord has provided for me. After that first surgery, the only thing that was on my mind, was driving myself so hard, meaning (to myself), ” I’m winning, nothing can beat me!!”, just…

FEEL SOME LOVE, HERE…
Ya gotta feel the love! I say that, because my parents just visited me at my place, this past week. My Dad just celebrated his 80th birthday, or should I say his 80th month! Boy, you live and still have a ball at 80, you’ve said and done a lot. It’s always different when they come here; when I go there (Las Vegas), I also have my sister, my brother, their families, cousins, and friends; so I have to socialize, that’s how I roll! The point is, I don’t get to spend a lot of time with the folks, so it’s nice when I see them here. Since I’ve lived…

WHO’S LUCKY… I AM!
Who’s lucky? I am, I am!!! Last week was a duesy; strange things happened! Interesting things; very interesting things happened. I lost my voice last Sunday; as one Dr. phrased it, my “brain scrambled”. Really? I actually went to the hospital on Monday, simply because I couldn’t talk. I could write, drive, do everything as my “normal” routines goes; basically I could live my active, FUNCTIONALLY ACTIVE life, (except I couldn’t talk). Clients like that; I couldn’t yell at them! I drove to the hospital, and checked in. I brought my files, and pointed to whatever was necessary, file-wise. 8:00 Monday morning. I knew nothing was wrong, but I…

TWO MOVES THAT CAN BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY…
How many of you said, “THANK YOU” this morning, for getting up, having the strength to walk around, and carrying on with the day? I did; actually I do that every day. Not trying to preach here, I just know how to accept that I can still do that. Some people can’t. A person that I really don’t know, but she came from my home town, Peoria, Illinois; she went on that cruise, recently, that a fire broke out, and everything stopped. Time, destinations, and hope. Took several days for the cruise to come to port. This person that I am talking about, had to be helicoptered out, thought she…

OATMEAL FOR (first) BREAKFAST?
How was breakfast today? I’m assuming that you DID have breakfast. Or, am I assuming too much? Living where I live, sometimes I, (we) assume too much. I know that when I get up, something is going down my feeding pipes. Not everyone can say that. For some, eating 1 meal a day, or even 2-3 days, can be a luxury. Sometimes I forget how blessed I am for indulging in 4-5 meals per day. I am blessed; and I should NEVER let that slip my mind, and neither should you. In our society, our media/programmers/way-of-life tendencies, can make us take for granted the treasures in our lives. It’s certainly…

HOW DO YOU GET UP…(from the chair)?
Who changed their fit-ness? Doesn’t have to be major, just something that make sense. We’ve mentioned this before; something simple can be very effective. Short and effective; simple! Start thinking about 20-30 minute workouts, and you say ” where do I start?”. Just start thinking about body parts: chest, back, arms (triceps/biceps), whole lotta legs! I know, easy for me to say that, but where do we start? Do any movement, let’s say getting out of a chair. You have to stand up, so you see how you extend your legs to stand. Basically, you’re doing a squat, probably one of the most important moves that your body can do. …
